What’s the First Thing to Do After Buying an iPod Touch?

So you’ve just bought your shiny new iPod Touch and you absolutely cannot wait to start doing all kinds of neat tricks with it and start loading it up with all kinds of cool stuff! But wait. After you buy your iPod Touch, it will still be a bit before you can start using it to its full potential. Here are a few first things you’ll need to do when you buy your iPod Touch.

The very first thing you’ll want to do is start charging the battery. This will take an hour or two, and you won’t be able to actually do anything with your Touch until it’s fully powered up. So plug in that USB cord and hook it up to your PC or laptop. Think twice though before you do this! The very first computer that you hook your iPod Touch up to becomes its “Home” computer, and needs to be used to connect with iTunes. So make sure you choose a computer that you have access to regularly. It will start charging, and you can start moving on to reading the instructions.

There are actually very few instructions that come with the iPod Touch. Some basics are offered in the short manual about downloading iTunes, using your library and syncing your iPod Touch. You can read through these to familiarize yourself. You’ll also notice in this section that there’s a registration area. Many people panic, thinking they shouldn’t move until their iPod Touch has been properly registered. And while you should register it, you can relax a little bit about it. This registration process will come in handy should you ever need to contact Apple for customer support. But don’t panic about it; you can get to it when you get to it.

The next thing you’ll want to do is download iTunes. Without iTunes, you can’t do anything with your iPod Touch because iTunes is the communication channel between your computer and your iPod Touch. Once your iPod Touch is powered up and you’ve downloaded iTunes, the Touch will probably start a sync automatically. Again, don’t panic. This is simply the iPod Touch getting itself straight with iTunes, and placing your files onto the device. The chances are that it won’t take very long to sync, unless you have already loaded a bunch of stuff into iTunes.

If you haven’t, then that’s your next step! Start looking for all those cool apps you’ve been hearing about and don’t forget to put all two thousand of your favorite songs on there too! And be sure to check out all of our iPod Touch tips and tricks along the way!
