Think Twice Before You Engrave Your iPod Touch!

Many people like to give someone they really truly love an iPod Touch as a gift. It’s actually how I got mine. And because only the truest love would shell out for this expensive little gadget, many people also like to get the iPod Touch engraved for their loved one. And Apple does everything they can to encourage this. They do this by placing the “Engrave it!” ad on the Apple website and by shoving it in your face just about everywhere you see iPods sold. But, if you’re considering engraving your own iPod Touch, or getting it done for one you’re giving as a gift, you might want to think twice.

This is because engraving your iPod Touch could automatically void its warranty. Every iPod Touch comes with a one-year warranty. And if you use the laser engraving that Apple offers to do for you when you order your Touch, that warranty will still be in effect should something go wrong with your iPod Touch during that first year. However, it’s also important to note that this engraving is also non-refundable. Which means that if you’re unhappy for any reason with the engraving you had done on your iPod Touch, you’re stuck with it. Unless you want to buy another one, of course. But who wants to do that?

It’s also very important to remember that if you get your iPod Touch engraved anywhere other than Apple, this will automatically void your warranty. That means that if you buy your Touch from any other retailer, you will still need to send it to Apple to get it engraved. Because of the length of time that can sometimes take, many people aren’t interested in doing that and choose instead to get it engraved privately. Of course you can always do this too, but if something goes wrong with your iPod Touch during that first year, you’ll be out of luck. There is one advantage to getting your iPod Touch engraved this way however – You’ll most likely be able to get whatever you want engraved whereas Apple has refused some engravings because they contain swear words or other material that could be offensive to some.

But all in all, when you want to really show you care, or really just love a certain song by getting the title engraved on your iPod Touch, you’ll be much better off by just using Apple’s engraving services to start with.
