How to Use the iPhone Battery Percentage Indicator

There are many features that Apple doesn’t like to boast about when it comes to the iPhone 3GS. These are features that you are left to find just by playing around with your phone and seeing everything that it really has to offer. One such feature is the iPhone battery percentage indicator. This hidden feature will display an indicator showing you how much battery life you have left in your iPhone. So you never have to panic again when you see that glaring warning, “20 percent of battery remaining” pop up unexpectedly. But you don’t have to find this yourself – that’s why we’re here to help! Finding and turning on the iPhone battery percentage indicator is really easy.

First turn your iPhone on and go to the “Settings” icon on the Home page. Tap “General” and then tap “Usage.” Then switch the “Battery Percentage” toggle switch to “On.” The battery percentage indicator should then pop up in the Status Bar.

Interestingly enough, I have an iPod Touch 16GB. I was sort of confused when I first came across these instructions, because I’ve always been able to see the battery percentage indicator in my status bar. So, is this a feature that just comes installed automatically on the iPod Touch, but not the iPhone? And it seems, this feature may also only be available on the iPhone 3GS.

  1. I have an iPod Touch 32G with the latest OS (4.0) and do not see the percentage showing or any way to turn it on.
