Report: Apple Partner With Samsung For AMOLED Display on iPad 3

A Korean paper is claiming that Apple and Samsung will partner up just to bring the latest Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display technology to the iPad 3.

According to the source, Apple is willing to tap into the franchise of Samsung’s AMOLED technology for the next release of iPad.

“Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad 2,” the source said.

Furthermore, Tim Cook, the Apple chief operating officer allegedly started talking with Samsung about the possibility of integrating AMOLED technology on iPad during his most recent trip to South Korea. iPad 3 is said to be launched at the end of the year.

iPad 2 which was released last March didn’t have any modifications on its display, tantamount to saying that the display technology of iPad 1 was almost the same as with the iPad 2 in most respect. That is why, rumors that iPad 3 will feature 3D display started making some noise earlier this month.

Considering the fact that Apple has recent filed a lawsuit against Samsung for trademark infringement, the rumor that iPad 3 will be getting AMOLED display may not be true.

Moreover, the third generation iPad will probably not be released in 2011 because Apple is faithful to sticking to its tradition of updating their products annually. It would mean iPad 3 won’t be released until spring 2012.
