iPhone Firmware Update 3.1.3 for iPhone and iPod Touch

Many people were in love with their iPhone 3GS but quickly found out that it did have some bugs that needed to be worked out. Most of these dealt with things such as battery life, and third party iphone applications. The latter bug prevented users from accessing third party applications and users who also used the Japanese Kana keyboard. This particular touch keyboard would cause certain apps to shut down right in the middle of use. Fixing crashes always sounds good, but keep in mind that no new features come with the update. And besides that, there might be some other reasons for wanting to hold off on this one.

One reason to hold off is that it takes a lot of space on your iPod Touch. 228.1 MB of space, to be exact. And that’s a lot just to fix something that was wrong, and not the user’s fault, in the first place! Also, users have jailbreak on their iPod Touch or iPhone might also not want to get the upgrade as these two are not compatible. Holding off until the next version, v3.2, is a much better option and one that won’t hurt your device. As long as you don’t mind living with the bugs until that time.

The iPhone firmware update 3.1.3 is available as a free download from iTunes and it can be downloaded onto any iPod Touch or iPhone. Just make sure first that you use the iPod touch apps or features that the update will correct, and that you don’t have things such as a jailbreak on your machine. However, keep in mind that there is no word as of yet when Apple is planning on releasing the iPhone v3.2 firmware update. Although it will be available for iPad as soon as March, Apple hasn’t given us any clues as to when it will be available for iPhone or iPod Touch.

Guess that means that downloading iPhone firmware update 3.1.3 is a judgement call.

  1. My 1st impressions of the iPad are totally positive. Apple has once again built a product that looks good and feels great in the hand, and the familiar user interface, borrowed from the iPhone and iPod touch, is perfectly suited to the bigger screen. The iPad whizzes along, opening applications, re-sizing web pages, and zooming in and out of maps almost instantaneously. Does someone know the release date? i love it and i want it…
