You may have recently gotten information from your mobile phone company about getting the iPhone 5 for just $99 – companies like Verizon and AT&T Wireless have recently been offering the phone for half-price what such a phone usually costs, as long as you sign a new contract.
Lots of people buying the iPhone5
For those of us who still are using iPhone 4S, and have not gotten to the Siri era, much less to the iPhone 5, getting to the current latest version of Apple’s product for a low price sounds pretty tempting, especially when some of us no longer have active warranties on our phones and are a dropped phone away from a disaster. So there has been huge demand of this deal – a friend of ours recently tried to take advantage of it, until to be told she would need to wait at least four days until more phones came in. So many people are taking advantage of the offer.
Apple is not known much for doing promotions – this is one of the rare times one of its products has gone on sale – so this makes this deal especially tempting.
The case for waiting for the next version of the iPhone
But wait! There are all sorts of talk and rumors that the next iPhone version could be coming out some time this year, and it could be as early as this summer. This next iPhone could either be called the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6, but many think it will be the former. TechRadar.com says that “the iPhone 5 is beginning to look a little long in the tooth against the rest of the best phones” such as the “Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z and HTC One” and says that “the next iPhone will have to seriously up its game.” Yet the site also says that “the iPhone 5S isn’t expected to differentiate itself from the iPhone 5 too drastically, though a better camera and slightly faster processor will surely be part of the package.”
Of course, Apple is notoriously tight-lipped about its products until they officially announce them, so we do not really know what the new phone will offer, yet, other than the fact that Apple will be releasing two new iPhones – one to be a the next version of the phone, and the other to be a lower-priced version of the iPhone.
Should you buy now or wait for the next version of the iPhone? It is up to you
So if you can wait a few months, there should be some new iPhone product. But if your phone is on its last legs, you may want to switch now.
