The iPhone is almost like a handheld computer in the sense that it even runs on operating systems that are subject to upgrade. However, unlike computers, which see operating system upgrades only once every few years, the iPhone sees an operating system upgrade released several times each year. Now, coming in the summer of 2009, Apple is releasing the newest and most powerful operating system for the iPhone so far – the iPhone OS 3. With a faster interface and hundreds of new features, this is something that no one is going to want to miss out on. The good news is that this upgrade will be as easy as making a simple download and installation to your phone!

Apple lists over a hundred new features for the new iPhone OS 3. Several of the more prominent features will really making the act of using your iPhone a lot easier and much more streamlined with efficiency. For example, you will now be able to search your iPhone. Whether you are looking for a certain app that you have, a picture tag that you have made, or a text message that you still have stored, you can find it with just a few clicks with the new search function. Also, to make the iPhone much more like a computer, Apple is including the cut, copy, and paste features. This will make it a lot easier to paste things from your email into a text message, or from an app into an email.

From the developer’s side of the spectrum, there is a lot to love about this new operating system as well. The iPhone OS 3 has an updated software development kit with thousands of totally new APIs. This will allow app developers to make even better apps with more detail and features. This news is good for both developers and consumers alike, as we will start seeing much more variety in the iTunes App store.

If you own an iPhone, you should be very excited about this new release. All the new features and Apps that will come along with this download will perhaps even restore the excitement you had when you first purchased your phone.
