It’s very understandable that people are excited by the new IPad that is being released. Pre order iPad already begin on 12 March 2010 and will be shipped out on 3 April 2010. As with many other Apple products, there will be lines of people in front of the store, the first couple of days that the product is released. There of course will be many camera crews, delivering both local and national news coverage about the hysterical fans that have waiting for days. These people are the first responders and usually soak up whatever products that Apple releases. And since their products are usually high quality items, this behavior is understandable. But are you one of the people that will pre order the IPad. Is it that essential to your electronics collection, that you must have it on the first day? Let’s see the advantages and the disadvantages of this type of behavior.
The good thing about a pre order of an IPad, is that you are guaranteed to get one soon after the date that it has been released. If you pre order several copies of the device, you may be able to get more than one when you leave the store that day. The only problem that you may have with pre ordering, is that all of the peope that will be standing in line have pre ordered the device as well. And when it comes to a launch that is done by Apple, these lines are usually very long. Even though you should be able to get your item on the first day, there is still a good chance that it may run out and you would have to come back the next day. Ask anybody who has pre ordered a video game and still had to wait a day or two to play it. This can be very frustrating, especially if you are eagerly awaiting the device.
If you are not the type that wants to wait in line, outside in the elements, then pre ordering the IPad probably will not help you that much. Unless you live in an area that is not that populated. If you live in a major city, then all of the stores will have lines of people, that have been waiting for a long amount of time, to get the IPad. So if you do not want to wait in a long line, then just let the hype past a little. Wait a week and the product will be easily available for everyone. This is the same thing that happened with the IPhone. A week of long lines and then after it died down, everyone was able to purchase one if they wanted to.
So should you pre order an IPad? It depends on how bad you want it on the first day. Do not expect to be able to just walk in the store and grab it, even if you have a pre order. You are still going to have to wait in a long line. So if you want one but feel that a long line is not for you, then do not worry about a pre order. Just wait a week and then go grab one for yourself.
