A new patent from Apple hints at what could be the biggest change in smartphone and mobile device batteries. Apple is apparently in the process of finalizing the design and implementation of ultra thin batteries that could make a big difference in future iPhone and iPad designs.
The truly interesting change in this new battery design is the rejection of old rectangular shaped batteries. Apple is now moving beyond that to new shapes that will conform to the shape and style of the device which they are to be used in. This will be a big change because it means less space will be wasted and more battery capacity will be able to fit into nearly any design. Apple hasn’t said anything about when they plan to implement this new patent but we imagine it will happen as soon as the design is done.
